    Beanie Boos T-shirt Tutorial

    2016-01-24 08.44.46

My daughter decided that her Beanie Boos Lion, ‘Hero’ needed a make over.  So I’ve made a new t-shirt for him (slightly girlie fabric but never mind!).  The pattern should also fit other medium size Beanie Boos that are in the same ‘sitting’ position (e.g. Tasha, Safari, Maddie etc).  I used a girls skirt from a charity shop for the fabric.

If you haven’t sewn with jersey before, this is a good size to practice on!  There are some good tips on different websites – I used the Tilly and the Buttons tips when I started experimenting with jersey (not that long ago).   I do have a ‘walking foot’ for my machine which does make a difference, and I use ball point needles.   I used a long zig-zag stitch for all of the t-shirt.

    Sock Alien Tutorial

    File 10-01-2016, 20 42 11

It’s all about ‘Space’ at the moment – at my daughter’s school anyway.   It wasn’t part of the homework but my daughter, Amelie, decided to design a sock Alien to take into school and to write about.  She even offered to make it herself – if I could help with the sewing machine bit (I still haven’t made the ‘plague’ rat she designed for the last topic!).  So I made the one that features below and she made her own one, which she didn’t want to feature on my blog in case everyone copied it!  The Alien does need legs because it can fly, obviously…

Despite being busy with a few other things at the moment, I’ve managed to put together the first in what may or may not become a series (!) of Quick Makes – Pirate Tic Tac Toe or Noughts and Crosses.  I made this for a ‘Quiet Book’ but you could easily make a bigger pouch and fold the board up as well; great for taking in the car or to restaurants and keeping kids/ grown-ups entertained.  Happy making!

    Cuddly sleeping bag tutorial

    2015-07-07 19.31.04

I always like making things for party favours for my children’s parties.  This year I decided to make sleeping bags for 6″ Beanie Boos (as it was a Beanie Boo themed party – more on that later).  They are quick and easy to make and would easily work with cotton instead of plush.  My daughter loves plush so she had one made out of just plush.  The heart pillow gives your Beanie Boo a nice comfy place to rest their head for the night!

    Roadtrip binder cover tutorial

2015-06-20 12.51.56We all know that keeping the kids entertained on a long journey is tough.  Some good old fashioned colouring and puzzles gives them a break from playing computer games or watching movies.  There are lots of colouring pages and puzzles online – so I decided to make a A5 fabric ring binder cover with a detachable pencil case  to hold them all.  When they’ve finished you can just print and add more!  There are lots of pencil case tutorials out there already so there was no point repeating them.  Instead I used the one from the Little Red Window blog.  It’s perfect for inside the folder. Make ‘Pugly’ the Pug Pillow

    2015-06-01 18.46.05

This neck pillow is a quick and easy make.  Pugs are my daughter’s favourite dog breed and I have to agree – they can be pretty cute.  She also loves plush fabric, so I chose a nice soft cream plush for Pugly.   The felt features are just cut out and sewn on by machine. Read more
